Trapping for a pixel tag
In the advertising world, some web servers attach what is known as a pixel tag, or a Clear GIF as a beacon for ad counters.
If a pixel tag is a part of an HTML email content, it can let you know if the content was viewed, i.e if you opened the email that contained the tag or not. Internet reading on the subject even cites that pixel tags can do the following: (1) Track client IP (2) Track browser type (3) Sniff cookies on the client Can a filter be written that traps [kills] a pixel tag or a clear GIF [one-pixel transparent gif]? |

...... As do most browsers when they disallow 3rd party URL requests, which comprises the vast majority of webbugs.
