system try icon
If bfilter is not-active could the icon be greyed out?
Can you enable right-click to toggle active/passive? |

That would make sence if you have to enable / disable filtering often. As for me, I do it very rarely. Could you provide examples of cases when you disable filtering?

right click to toggle
I just loaded bfilter but based in my experiences with privoxy there were occaisional sites that wouldn't open properly due to the proxy's filtering rules or the case of pages that has 'ad' in the url (ex. a NYTimes story re: a companies advertising campaign)

BFilter is supposed to be smart about detecting ads. There are no hard rules to block URLs containing ad or banner or other things like that. There are only hints attached to these words. However, nothing stops you, as a user, to write a broad blocking rule.
So, I suggest you to take more time to familiarize yourself with BFilter, and hopefully to realize you almost never have to turn filtering off. If not, we can get back to this discussion later. |

If you quickly need to en/disable BFilter and don't want to use the righ-click menu I'd suggest using one of the appropriate Browser extensions which are available either for FF or IE (and probably for other Browsers as well). For Firefox that would be Proxybutton from http://proxybutton.mozdev.org/ if you only need to switch BFilter on/off, or Switchproxy from http://www.roundtwo.com/product/switchproxy for handling several proxys. For IE you can use ProxyPal from http://www.bartdart.com/ which is also very small and free. -tBB |
