Kye-U;
Now What?!?! [beatdown] When I click a link from the real UOPF, I get sent to the fake UOPF (hopto.org). That wouldn't be so bad, if it would recognize the fact that I'm already logged in, via my cookie. [angry] I don't know about any of the other users here, but I'm not particularly fond of having to log in every session, particularly since the real UOPF has already accepted my log in/cookie from the get-go. What can we do about this fiasco? Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |

The URL you should be using is:
http://kye-u.hopto.org/proxo/forums/index.php The forum is set so that the cookie domain is "kye-u.hopto.org". What link were you using before? |

Been having a little trouble of that sort, too. My bookmark has been to http://prxbx.com/forums/index.php.

Yep, has for me. I noticed the hopto a day or two ago, when I had to add it to my "Allow Javascript" list. But I hadn't realised the whole thing was now kye-u.hopto, just that any forum link from the index changed to it.
I've still got kye-u.com listed in my hosts file as 205.209.167.11, though, and kye-u.hopto.org resolves to that as well. Anyway, I'm all updated now. Surfing with Proxo on wine in Debian GNU/Linux ... can ya dig it? |

Kye-U;
(A few days later.....) Gotta agree with the others here. The HOSTS fix is the only thing that works consistently, otherwise, it's "Lookup Error", or "Proxo can't find....", you get the drift. However, I just tried adding the hopto name to the HOSTS list, with the proper (same) server IP, and so far, no problems. After all, this kind of problem is almost exactly why the HOSTS concept came into existance in the first place - the ability to alias almost anything in the entire address range. I'll keep this up for the next day or two, and then report back. And no, for the record, my cookie, which is dated yesterday (since I had to re-login) does not contain the hopto address, only the straightforward kye-u.com. http://kye-u.hopto.org/ is actually a redirection URL.
With it, you don't need to add the IP address in the HOSTS files constantly

Quote:http://kye-u.hopto.org/ is actually a redirection URL.Well, I can't speak for any of the others here, but I, for one, don't add the address constantly - I just add it once, and leave it there for all time. [lol] Seriously, once a fix works for me, I tend to just leave it alone. If you ever remove the redirection, I'll probably remove the line from my HOSTS file, but until then....... :P Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |

yep, same here...
i only removed it (by way of renaming the HOSTS file to HOSTS.txt) to "test" whether or not it was still "needed" - and yes, it is... then un-renamed back to HOSTS, fix and all... |

This is mainly for those who do not know how to edit the HOSTS file. With the hopto.org redirection URL, you do not need to add the DNS entry in the HOSTS file

Now here's something interesting.....
I decided to delete my kye-u cookie, and just log in fresh. (The old cookie was made by kye-u.com.) I logged in using the hopto.org link (as seen above), and Lo and Behold, the cookie now contains the hopto.org address. After exiting the browser entirely, I used my original link, kye-u.com, to come back here. I did not get a new cookie. Hmmm. So I dove out of my browser, flushed the cache again, and deleted the hopto.org cookie, just for good measure. No cookies, empty cache - all should be well, right? Browse to kye-u.com, log in, and check the cookie - address is hopto.org!! :o That was all Step One. I then repeated ProxRocks' experiment, doing all the above (except that my original cookie is gone, and I didn't really think it would be important to save it just for this test). As ProxRocks noted, the HOSTS file still makes or breaks the deal - no entry in HOSTS = Blammo! Sorry to have to say it, Kye-U, but the cookie doesn't make finding the site (or its pages) any easier, it only makes logging in more-or-less automatic. At least for some of us, if the HOSTS file isn't up-to-date, then we're effectively cut off at the knees. This might be a general net-wide DNS problem, and it might only affect some of us, I don't claim to know. But I do know that at least ProxRocks and I are thankful for the HOSTS file - and you can take that to the bank. [lol] Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |
