Hello everyone, new here and new to the Proxo program and so far, love it. I have encountered one problem however and tried some things after doing a search here and doing some reading but nothing helped. It's got to do with my daughters hotmail email. We can get signed in no problem, but, when she tries to send any email, it does nothing. I tried going under webfilters and disable the ?Hide browser version from JS but it didn't help at all. Could anyone suggest what to change in order for this to work???? Would be really greatful. In the meantime, I am going back to reading threads here..... Thanks!!!!!

Welcome to our forums! Hope we can be of assistance.

In your case, you'll need to do more than disable only one or two filters in order to make Hotmail do its job. As you've seen by now, Proxo is popular because it is so versatile, but that means that nearly every user has a different installation, and from that, we find that what works for me may or may not work for you, or anyone else, for that matter.

Luckily, the troubleshooting principles are the same, no matter what system. Let's start at Square One, and see if we can find the culprit. First, and this should be obvious, but once in awhile it gets by us...... what happens when you temporarily disable Proxo? Not just the web filters, but the whole enchilada. Can you now use Hotmail as expected? Next, leave the web filters disabled, and enable all of the header filters. What happens? (The intent here is to eliminate the header filters as suspects. Chances are very high that a web filter is the culpritm but you never know.) If you can now use Hotmail as advertised, we'll take the next step. I await your report.

Also, you can expect others to pitch in here, too, so if you see reponses asking you to try this or that, don't worry, we're not cooperation-challenged, we're just asking you to try things that have worked for us, as individuals. Just ask questions whenever something is not clear to you, and we'll fill you in on the details.

Hey Oddysey,

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. Sorry I didn't report back sooner. I had temporarily uninstalled Proxo because of this. It became a pain with my daughters trying to send email. Anyway, I re-installed it and tried your suggestions. With any of the things you suggested, I still cannot send email via any hotmail accounts.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference but I use FireFox as my browser. I have it configured with port 8080 as needed and it works with everything but the Hotmail stuff. Any more thoughts or suggestions??

Appreciate your help!!!!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and predict that we've got a javascript-blocking issue. I didn't really think that the header filters were the problem, but it's nice to eliminate the so-called "obvious" before getting down-and-dirty. :P

A bit sadly, I have to say that there is no easy way to immediately disable all javascript filters. In this case, you'll have to manually go through your configuration and find/disable each suspect filter (in this case, those that deal with javascript). There are two ways you can do this: either find and disable all of them at once, or disable them one-by-one. If you choose Method A, then make sure the Send Mail works. If it does, then you can re-enable the filters one at a time until you hit the culprit. Modify the offender to suit, and you're all set. With Method B, you disable each javascript filter individually in the list, and test for effect. The choice is up to you.

The only caveat here is that with Method A, you can be sure that it is indeed a javascript-handling filter that's causing your problem, because if you disable them all, and Send Mail still doesn't work, then we'll have to try something else. Also, be sure that as you make your tests, you empty your cache each time, and refresh the page from HotMail's server. Otherwise, you run the risk of working on an already filtered page (in the cache), and that's not a good thing. [angry]

As an alternative, you could downlaod (from this forum) a more advanced filter set. This may solve your problems with no additional messing around. If you're interested, go here, and pick one. (Suggestion: the last one on the list - sidki3003.) Don't worry about support, there's plenty of that here, both from the author and from the rest of us who also use one (or more) of these sets.

Keep us posted. Filtering web-based email sites like HotMail, Yahoo, G-Mail, all of those big-bux company sites, is very important to one's sense of security. That's a very big part of why Proxo was invented, and why the user community has banded together for mutual support. This forum also has a few links to other Proxomitron support sites at Kye-U's Proxo Links - check 'em out. Smile!
