The Proxomitron Setup Block Diagrams
Hi, Chaps

While there are no add-ons for any ad-blocks as far as the Seamonkey browsers after 3.0 are concerned. and the Chrome browsers are only reflecting the protective policy of Google as far as her own advertisements are concerned, now Proxomitron remains one of the most valuable instruments within the ad-blocking.

As far as I could imagine, the most sophisticated setup should include some other elements as being pre-cluded and post-cluded along with Proxomitron itself in line. What these elements could be, we would like to learn. Since a lot has been told about some compatible solutions applied, now I suggest going into details what could be hung up to Proxomitron either before or else after. In other words, what could serve as front and rear servers along with Proxomitron.

Please, could anybody draw up the most favorable setup tested with all details indicated? - Let us discuss some block diagrams in question (to be drawn up).

Thanks.

RE: The Proxomitron Setup Block Diagrams
The diagram that you posted was created to show how ProxHTTPSProxy provided other proxies access to HTTPS.

Since amy, https://www.prxbx.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=2331, the Proxomitron does not need ProxHTTPSProxy.

In the past, people have chained proxies to the Proxomitron for various reasons, caching, socks bridge, logging, etc.

What do you think is needed?

Can the Proxomitron handle HTTPS entries?

I have no experience with the chained Proxomitron.
I used it many many years ago, just as it appeared.
I was impressed.

I'm here to learn what other people do now.
I even do not know now how to start.
Times changed. New hardware. New software.
I would like to learn, not to teach.

Graphics would help treating the issue systematically.

RE: The Proxomitron Setup Block Diagrams
Yes, I patched the original Proxomitron to use a newer OpenSSL and fixed some bugs related to such, and then went the whole hog with Proxomitron Reborn.

Chaining other filters to Proxomitron is possible but I can't think of any reason why you'd want to do that; and of course Proxo itself can chain into other HTTP/CGI proxies too. These days, I think the preferred solution if you want to hide your IP and such is a VPN, which works at a lower level and doesn't require applications to be explicitly aware.

I have some ideas around advanced content filtering involving parsing HTML and structurally modifying it, but those are still in the distant future...

Hi, amy

I'd agree that VPN is a matter of itself!

Please, do I correctly understand that the Proxomitron can handle HTTPS entries, too?

What is the standard or else customisable Proxomitron set for ad-blocking?

Anyway, it is a great deed of your own for the whole community voluntarily.

RE: The Proxomitron Setup Block Diagrams
Yes, Proxomitron Reborn handles filtering of HTTPS sites. In Scott's time it was rare for sites to use HTTPS and he advised against its use, but now almost all sites are. I've been using HTTPS filtering for over a decade, first with original Proxomitron, then patched Proxomitron, and now Proxomitron Reborn; and have never had any problems with it besides the bugs in the early versions. I almost never bypass.

I use a set of filters that I built over the years, starting from Scott's initial set, but I hear sidki's filters are also popular amongst the users here.

Ultimately I'm doing this not because of the community... but because I use this myself and want to fix the things which don't work; I just thought it would be nice to share. Smile!

That's the point what I meant.

I did only hear about diverse filters. But just so start with,
what files should I download then along with the Proxomitron to run with Win10 or Win7 and any modern hardware?
Does the Proxomitron alone have all the necessary filters included?
Or additional filters could be chained additionally or substituted instead?

I just want to give a try.

Thanks.

Download and add to the Proxomitron's folder (don't put it in a system folder like Program files).

The Proxomitron, https://prxbx.com/download/!!!Builds/ProxN45j.zip .

Amy's latest, ProxomitronReborn_4605R.zip,
from https://www.prxbx.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=2331

Amy's OpenSSL DLLs from https://prxbx.com/forums/showthread.php?...3#pid18693

cacert.pem, https://curl.haxx.se/docs/caextract.html ,
to The Proxomitron's folder and rename it certs.pem.

A modern version of zlib may be found at https://github.com/gdalsnes/zlibnet/releases
Rename zlib32.dll in zlib.1.2.8.1.zip to zlib.dll

Start 4605R and generate proxcert.pem and exit 4605R.
http://prxbx.com/forums/showthread.php?t...0#pid19600

Add proxcert.pem to browser's certificate store.

Configure browser to use proxy for HTTP & HTTPS.
Both addresses are 127.0.0.1 or localhost and the port is 8080.

Does it work?

Thank you, JJoe
You have taken a lot of your time to write down the whole set of files for the Proxomitron to work.
It's nearly a big program indeed.
I'll give a try and write back then.

Also, you may need to edit cacert.pem

RE: The Proxomitron Setup Block Diagrams
There are on my notebooks Win XP, Win 7, Win 8.1, Win 10 installed.
I don't think it will be the same while trying activate the Proxomitron over there.
