Still trying to learn/use ProxHTTPSProxyMII
I am still trying to configure ProxHTTPSProxyMII.

It says that I need to do the following:

install ProxHTTPSProxy's "CA.crt" to the Client's store of trusted certificate authorities.

How do I do this for Windows XP 32-bit?

I found if I need to do this it is already done when using Windows 7 but I need to do this for Windows XP.

Please help.

For browsers (clients) that use XP's store, https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/Support/KB/Docs/WindowsXProotcert should help.

Otherwise, which client are you using?

We have to add it to Win7.

RE: Still trying to learn/use ProxHTTPSProxyMII
I am trying to use this program for to access HTTPS web pages on Internet explorer for Windows XP. My client is a 90 year old woman who cannot learn a new operating system or new browser so I am attempting to set up her access to HTTPS sites by using this program. Unfortunately I have not been able to do so. This program sounds like it should be able to do so or am I wrong about this?

I have used https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/Support/KB/Docs/WindowsXProotcert
on XP, 7, and 10.

You may be able to start the process by double-clicking or right-clicking ProxHTTPSProxy's "CA.crt" and selecting install.

For more options there is the MMC snap-in, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/wcf/feature-details/how-to-view-certificates-with-the-mmc-snap-in

I have 'tested' it on XP and have read that people are using it to add some time to XP. We are not your average computer users, however.
I don't know how well it actually works for them.

That said, I dragged all my people off XP after an exploit allowed access to an elderly friend's non-administrator account.

Did you set the browser to use the Proxy for https?
Is the Proxy running?

RE: Still trying to learn/use ProxHTTPSProxyMII
My client only uses her computer for email. No banking. She also only uses it to view web sites that are in her trusted web site list that I have created for her. She can view no other web sites. So a exploit will not harm her.

I have your program running on my Windows 7 system.
I have tried to use this program on my Windows 7 system and have set the proxy on Internet Explorer as follows:
Address: localhost
Port :8080

But I have not found the information as how to install ProxHTTPSProxy's "CA.crt" to the Client's store of trusted certificate authorities in windows 7.

I want to confirm it works on Windows 7. This way I should be able to configure it the same way in windows XP after I install ProxHTTPSProxy's "CA.crt" to the Client's store of trusted certificate authorities in windows XP.

Please help me.

Thank you, KnowNothing

I think we better start at the start. I assumed too much.

Try this...

Configure ProxHTTPSProxyMII:

In the ProxHTTPSProxyMII folder find and open "config.ini" in a text editor.
Change

Code:
ProxAddr = http://localhost:8080

to

Code:
ProxAddr = http://localhost:8081

Save "config.ini" and Start ProxHTTPSProxyMII.

Set Proxy's Address and Import Cert:

Start Internet Explorer >> Open Tools >> Internet Options >> Connections >>
Lan Settings >> Select "Use a proxy server..." >> Advanced >>
Set the Secure address to 127.0.0.1 Port 8079 >>
OK >> OK >>
Content >> Certificates >> Import >> Next >> Browse >>
Navigate to and double-click CA.crt >> Next >>
Select "Place all certificates in following store" >>
Browse and select "Trusted Root Certication Authorities" >>
Next >> Finish >>
exit Tools

Tested on Win 7 and 10

RE: Still trying to learn/use ProxHTTPSProxyMII
Note: This thread will be moving from "Proxomitron Program" to ProxHTTPSProxy.

Note: Amy's project Proxomitron Reborn may (I haven't checked XP) be used to add modern https to XP.

RE: Still trying to learn/use ProxHTTPSProxyMII
I did all that you told me to do. I still have not got it to work. Here is what I get after attempting to use Internet Explorer:

This is what ProxHTTPSProxy shows:

ProxHTTPSProxy MII v1.4urllib3/1.15.1)
FrontServer: localhost:8079
RearServer:localhost:8081
ParentServer:None
Proxomitron:https://localhost:8080

HTTPConnectionPool(host='localhost', port=8080): Max retries exceeded with url: http://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl (Caused by ProxyError('Cannot connect to proxy.', NewConnectionError(': Failed to establish a new connection: [WinError 10061] No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it',)))

I also get the same message from Internet Explorer.

What am I not doing right?

ProxHTTPSProxyMII thread is at https://prxbx.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=2172

Download and use the "Link" version at the bottom of the first post, http://jjoe.proxfilter.net/ProxHTTPSProx...1_1_0h.zip .

Check your config.ini. edit.

Code:
ProxAddr = http://localhost:8081

Should cause the console to show

Code:
Proxomitron:https://localhost:8081

You want the ProxHTTPSProxyMII console to look something like

Got to go.

Edit: Added a "console"

RE: Still trying to learn/use ProxHTTPSProxyMII
I changed the config.ini from this:

ProxAddr = http://localhost:8080

to this:

ProxAddr = http://localhost:8081

The picture now matches. Thank you for your help.

I now have some HTTP web sites working but when I go to other HTTP sites such as this one:

REMOVED

The web page on Internet Explorer shows this:

400: Bad Request

The following error occurred while trying to access REMOVED

The proxy setting of the client is misconfigured. Please set the HTTPS proxy port to 8079 and check the Docs for other settings.

From that error message I believe I have other settings that need to be changed. Any idea what they are ?

Thank you again for your help.

RE: Still trying to learn/use ProxHTTPSProxyMII
I made the changes to the IE proxy settings so they now match.

When I go to the same link I gave you before the browser hangs.

This link : REMOVED

ProxHTTPSProxy says an existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Any ideas?

For me and IE11, it redirects to https://spectrum.pch.com/Path/...

It could be the pch server doesn't like something about your machine's request. Request headers identify the machine's Operating System, Browser, and more.

It could also be that something (firewall, anti-virus, etc) is blocking the connection.

BTW, I removed the link.
