Google Alternate Display - intermittent
similar to the now-fixed (many thanks to JJoe) Yahoo Auto Login intermittent issue, i'm now noticing intermittent issues with the Google Alternate Display...
do a search, refresh several times... sometimes the right column sponsored ads will show, most of the time they will not... same intermittent on-and-off for the left column navigation... any ideas? |

I did not see a navigation column.
For ads and excessive <br> tags try: Code: [Patterns] HTH |

RE: Google Alternate Display - intermittent
hmm...
still intermittently missing... but have found out more to help narrow it down... the "dark blue" seems ok, it's the "LIGHT blue" that gets the intermittent miss... and, and i don't know if this is related or not, but when the "light blue" WORKS, there is a "Match: Top Mark: HTML - Fix Tags" match that creates/writes "øøþ<!doctype html>"... so viewing the source code from within the browser (not Proxo), the very first line is "<!doctype html><html>"... when the "light blue" FAILS, there is *NO* "Match: Top Mark: HTML - Fix Tags" match and therefore no "<!doctype html>" as the first line of browser-viewed source code... any ideas? is the <!doctype html> the reason that the "light blue" CSS is not being imported (the "light blue" imports the CSS *differently* than the "dark blue)? |

RE: Google Alternate Display - intermittent
How is it "missing", styling not being applied, ads showing?
My Google Dark was doing both. I did not check the other styles. I assumed... Dark and Light both target "<style id="themed">" in the Google code. Dark does more filtering, however. When it misses, what is the first line of browser-viewed source code? Are you seeing the ajaxed Google search page? Does the page's address contain a "#"? Hope they bury this new code but I'll test the other styles when I see it again. |

RE: Google Alternate Display - intermittent
by "missing", i mean that the styling is not being applied (the ads are blocked)...
when it "misses", the very first line of browser-viewed source code is "<html>" (whereas when it "hits" and the styling is applied, the very first line is "<!doctype html><html>")... am i seeing "ajaxed"? no clue, what is "ajaxed"? page's address does not contain a "#"... |

Basically, the ajax page's address would look like "http://www.google.com/#num=100&hl=en&safe=off&q=proxomitron". Some scripts then take the info after the "#" and create the page. Google Suggest uses ajax, I think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_(programming) I rarely use Light-Blue. Is it supposed to look something like the attached gif? lightblue.gif (Size: 53.36 KB / Downloads: 699) |

RE: Google Alternate Display - intermittent
yep, that gif is what it's supposed to look like when it is working properly...
the intermittent fail will have an all-white background and no search results highlights in the two shades of blue... i've been getting the "fail" several times a day... |

RE: Google Alternate Display - intermittent
google stopped "mucking up" on their end...
it's become clear that i was getting intermittent issues because they were changing stuff on their end... i haven't had the "intermittent" miss for several days - it morphed into no longer being "intermittent" to being permanent... once it became "permanent", i was able to debug it more effectively |
