Help: Firefox 3.6 nightly crash with Sidki config set
Update 24-Dec-2009 8:40PM EST
Installing the latest Firefox 3.6b6pre nightly (20091224) - incident has been resolved. No further crashes with Proxomitron & Sidki config set.

--------------------
I am running FF behind Proxomitron.

Latest Firefox 3.6b6pre (since 20091223) Nightly/Hourly crash problem: With a clean profile, once I applied localhost (or 127.0.0.1):8080 in the Manual Proxy Configuration area entry boxes, Namoroka will crash as soon as I click on a link in the Latest Headlines feed. Afterwards, the browser will continue to crash when launched. Bypass Proxomitron: no crashes; Loading up earlier "default" filter set: no more crashes neither. Loading up Proxomitron with Sidki 2009-02-13 (06-06 update) filter sets: crash at start up or page loading.

Rolling back to previous nightly from 20091222 also clear this crash problem.

Latest Hourly: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2b6pre) Gecko/20091223 Namoroka/3.6b6pre (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) - Build ID: 20091223112134

Perhaps this begins the end of Firefox as a primary browser for Proxo.

I won't upgrade further. Currently using Firefox 3.5.6 20091201, with the only Proxo failure attempting SSL login at my bank. Other SSL sites work fine.

SSL login with my bank has been impossible with Firefox, since Nov. 11, 2009, version 3.5.5, while same Proxo config & SSL filtering with IE 7.0.x have no problems.

Any other "non-Active-X" browsers recommended with Proxo?

Opera is working fine and has been a good combination with Proxo.

RE: Help: Firefox 3.6 nightly crash with Sidki config set
you can disable Active-X with practically every browser on the planet...
it should not be your basis for selecting a day-to-day browser...
pick a browser that is "ergonomic" to your needs...

I should have made the above updated statement bold in the original post. Since 20091224, Firefox 3.6b6 (no problems at all with 3.7a), the problem with Proxomitron & Sidki config sets have been resolved. I have been using the latest nightly build since. Current build: 20100101.

Out of curiosity, where did you get 3.6b6?

I'm using 3.6b5 and can find no reference to 3.6b6.

Thanks.

RE: Help: Firefox 3.6 nightly crash with Sidki config set
3.6b6pre is a Branch nightly build (whoops, I left out the "pre" bits). You will find the discussions in the Mozilla Firefox Builds subforum: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23

Then you look for the titles with something like "The Official Win32 20100101 Branch build is out" or "The Official Win32 20100102 Branch build is not yet out". The first post will have the links to the latest nightly.

If you are really brave (or would like to test things out), you can even try the hourly builds.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look.

I'm on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, wonder if that changes anything (probably not).

Thanks guys.

ProxRocks,
update.microsoft.com requires Active-X for updates to Windows systems, and Proxo filter developers handle these Active-X issues with a complete bypass filter.

So I prefer IE for updates only, and a primary browser designed without Active-X, so Proxo is less frequently bypassed for browser-dependent Active-X issues.

I tried to run windows update on one of my WinXP VMs and IE8 continually crashed and died trying to update the update software.

I opened FireFox (FF), added [IE Tabs] addon and ran windows update using FF. It happily updated the update software, but sort of hung on looking for updates, so I ended FF.

I then opened up IE8 and tried again. Because FF had updated the update software, IE8 didn't try to, nor did it crash. It found my updates and I got the job done.

Moral: Synergy Rulez!
