I just ran into a problem: If I cannot see any images, I cannot add a new topic. Something is puzzling me here. I looked at the source code, and noticed that some of the images have no height or width specified. Example:
<img src='style_images/ONi_Styl-585/pip.gif' border='0' alt='*' /> How can you post an image and not specify its size? |

If you don't specify the size it just goes to the default. Like lets say that you have an image 320x320 and you want to resize it on the forum as a thumbnail to 32x32, you would specify that. But then if you want to show the image at full size, you don't need to specify it. Try it on your computer with an HTML page and an image.
{=(~::[Shea]::~)=} How 'bout you sideburns, you want some of this milk? This fading text is pretty cool, eh? I bet you wish you had some. |

Siamesecat;
Two possible answers for you. One: Quote:<img src='style_images/ONi_Styl-585/pip.gif' border='0' alt='*' />See that forward slash at the very end, just before the closing arrow? That says that this is an XML command, not HTML. Your browser may not understand the command correctly. If that's the case, then I humbly suggest that you consider stepping up from Proxo's default config set. Perhaps JD or sidki has made filters to force XML pages to be more IE-friendly. (And it's derivitives like MyIE2, etc.) If not, then further explorations may be necessary, both here and on other forums. Two: is this another case of IE's infamous disappearing gif's?? If so, try this link first (it worked for me): Missing GIFs in IE. Oddysey p.s. Kye-U, Arne also had an FAQ on this; perchance do you have a copy of it somewhere? Kye-U;
Nice reference, I almost missed it. :P Lessee if I can get this up on the boards for Siamesecat without any hassles. And don't worry, I doubt there'd be enough money in it for him to try an international stunt like that. [lol] (Sorry, can't reply via normal channels just now - a javascript isn't working correctly, and I don't have time to dope it out. Perhaps this week I'll put everything back together, and stop making forum members scratch their heads, wondering "WTF?") Oh, and did I say thanks yet? If not, then - THANKS! My problem was not that the images weren't visible. It was that loading them was taking too long and I got rid of them by blocking images with a filter. That left me with nothing to click. I found that changing the alt text to a visible string on the page created text links that work as well as the images did. Thanks, Shea, for clearing up that little puzzle. |

Siamesecat;
So, Colonel Mustard didn't use the lead pipe in the drawing room, and he didn't guess the correct browser either? Hmmm, curiouser and curiouser. [rolleyes] OK, so Firefox doesn't have the same issues as IE about GIF images (or at least none that have been reported). That said, your method of making the alt text into a text link is good. In fact, it's pretty much the fastest way to strip an image and still have something meaningful to click on. But all that still doesn't explain your molasses-like slowdown. (And who better to describe such a pace, than a northern Canuck?) The possiblities are nearly endless - you'll have to start with one end of the list, and work towards the other end. If your machine worked well until recently, then what did you do (or not do when you should have) recently. If you've always had this problem, then perhaps it's between your ISP and Kye-U's server. Your call as to how much time you spend on this, but it probably won't be easy to lick, sorry to say. Good luck, me bucko! Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |

Oddysey Wrote:Perhaps JD or sidki has made filters to force XML pages to be more IE-friendly.IE6 is rendering the forum pages fine as XHTML 1.0 Transitional in strict mode, it doesn't seem to get confused by the "/>" vs. ">" mix. IIRC there were rendering problems on similar pages in 5.0 and 5.5, but i can't check it since i don't have these versions anymore. Shea Wrote:But then if you want to show the image at full size, you don't need to specify it.Width and Height attributes for images aren't mandatory of course, but they help a whole lot when it comes to rendering speed, at least in Gecko browsers. Speaking of images on this forum, i have a humble request regarding the forum logo. It takes way too much vertical screen space in my eyes and i have to admit that i'm blocking it. Kye-U, - in case it's not just me - any chance to get that image a bit less - uhm - prominent? ![]() sidki |

LOL - that's ALWAYS been my complaint...
When it comes to my THREE side-by-side-by-side 17" LCD's, I value every INCH of "landscape"... As long as I have zero messages in my forum inbox, then I block that table also, reclaiming another 1/2 inch or so... |

As for the images, I've noticed that on occasion (esp. if downloading three or more pages simultaneously) that I get "red X's" instead of the images (esp. the "no new posts" image)...
My fix has been to save those images locally and alter the pages code (gotta luv Proxo) to fetch my local copies instead... It keeps me from getting those dang red X's anyway... |

That's a known intrinsic problem of your beloved IE. You will hardly ever see that in advanced browsers. :P
