RE: Prox Menu: Show xx CSS
see attached (not sure what you meant by "true color")...

that .js command -
GreenBrowser returns a 7...
IE8 also returns a 7 (help->about shows Version: 8.0.6001.18702)...

edit: ONLY on "this" computer does my Prox Menu show "squares" in it instead of the "3-dot triangles"... it's a "system font" thingie that i basically never tracked down to-date...

LOL, because your previous SS looked almost like black & white on my end.

That layout looks nicer, but since your IE8 is returning "7" as well (i was expecting "8" as per this post), i don't see a way to distinguish them.

Anyway, problem solved, sort of...

RE: Prox Menu: Show xx CSS
i joined late and didn't make any of the .css changes that you and DarthTrader were talking about...

as to that "detecting ie8" site, as i have it installed strictly to be used by "shells", my ie8 is installed with it's "default" settings...

would you like me to "test" those 'six different settings'?
(i don't know how yet, but should be able to find it, lol...)

RE: Prox Menu: Show xx CSS
what's your conclusion on the DarthTrader .css discussion?
you still seeking someone with IE8 to be sifting through the .css?
as is, i've made no changes to any of the .css...

this was AFTER clicking a "compatibility view" icon on IE8's toolbar, then reverting it back... note that NOW that .js one-liner returns an 8 in ie8... but still a 7 in GreenBrowser...

That doesn't help, because i was looking for a way to distinguish "7" reporting intact GreenBrowser from "7" reporting broken IE8. But again, we have an acceptable solution already.

It was the "filter:" rules, doing the transparency stuff.
Conclusion: turn them off in IE8, in whatever mode.

I can't fine control these things, i don't have IE8. Further remote troubleshooting is too slow, due to the usual clear cache, restart browser, etc. issues (no offense, that's normal Smile! ).

lol...
sounds like the ie8 testing side of things is done then and that you know what direction to head from here...
so off i go... let me know if you need anything else ie8-tested/shell-compared...

is this an OS system-level font thingie or a browser-level font thingie?

i'm noticing that DarthTrader's screen-caps shows them also, so it seems they aren't isolated to just me...

RE: Prox Menu: Show xx CSS
That character is listed as "therefore" in the "Math Symbols Supported by HTML" table here:
http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/ref_symbols.asp

Perhaps it's supplied by one of the WingDings fonts (i have three of them installed), but i don't know.
Perhaps someone knows of a tool that can tell which char is coming from which font?
