The next Google Search: Alternate Display?
Once upon a time displays were 640x480 and Google returned more text.
Today displays are wider and results are smaller.
So, I'm thinking about 2 columns.

To play along:

rename google-css-alt.css and google-css-dark.css in html\sidki_h_2011-12-22rc1\Google
add the new versions of these css files, in Google2c.zip, to html\sidki_h_2011-12-22rc1\Google

add the webpage filters in Google2c.zip to the Google section of your set
disable old versions of the new filters. Click all the OKs

Report problems or concerns.

Have fun

RE: The next Google Search: Alternate Display?
Hi, JJoe.

Good idea, originally. I just tried it and it works fine.

But I find this display a little bit confusing and I think the broad wide display in line much more readable (see my screen copy)

So I'll stick to the "Google Search: Alternate Display 13.04.26" you posted on april 26th (http://prxbx.com/forums/showthread.php?t...id_17063).

May I ask you what is the use of these 2 new filters, as they seem not to change anything on my screen ?

- Google Search: Remove Ad Blocks part 1 13.04.26 [multi] (d.s) [ADD] test

RE: The next Google Search: Alternate Display?
a year or so ago, i was experimenting with a version that self-adjusted to your browser window width - three columns above a certain width, two columns if below that width (was going to even add a fourth)...

it was fun as an experiment, but i did find that the search results were indeed easier to read if just in one wide column...

that was "just me" though, i've seen several Google "column" theme 'plugins' over the years and they seem to be fairly popular for the type of folk that like "plugins"...

RE: The next Google Search: Alternate Display?
Currently, the 2 column display is controlled by "Google Search: Alternate Display 2 columns 13.04.28 (multi) [ADD]". It is optional. Disabling it should bring back the single column display.

I'm considering building the page with local files, adding only the search results from google. This might provide a more consistant experience. Users could change colors, fonts, languages, etc.

- Google Search: Remove Ad Blocks part 1 13.04.26 [multi] (d.s) [ADD] test

On your screen capture, I see links for "En cache", "Pages", "similaires". For me, those links are currently hidden in an "action" menu. "Google: action-menu to links 13.04.28 [multi] [ADD]" removes the menu.

"Google Search: Remove Ad Blocks part 1 13.04.26 [multi] (d.s) [ADD] test" removes more "bottom" ads that you may not be sent.

RE: The next Google Search: Alternate Display?
very cool indeed...
i've often been curious as to whether the Alt Disp that i provide would be used by more if changing colors back to a "dark" theme were detailed &/or provided...

i do fear that rebuilding from local files will only be tried by some if an entire config set is release as opposed to adding to a previously released config set...
i get the impression that some users are still uneasy with some types of "adds"...

Yes, it does nicely. I had noticed I didn't have these links any more these days. My previous screen capture (showing links) had been taken with your filters on, so they were apparent. I used to have a white square in place of them, recently. (see captures below showing white sqare vs links when filter is active. Thanks JJoe.

In fact, I do not have any advertisement on my google page, either hl=en or hl=fr

"Google Search: Alternate Display 13.04.26 (multi) [sd ku] (d.s)" you provided to cure my google results page broken (http://prxbx.com/forums/showthread.php?t...#pid_17063) gives unwrapped, page-wide text lines, while the much smaller and 2-days more recent "Google Search: Alternate Display 13.04.28 (multi) [sd ku] (d.s)" included in the zip file, truncates the text lines, which make results more compact and less readable, leaving the right half of the page unused.
Maybe a little fix is possible ? I am always glad when filters are smaller sized.

Tried and adopted. Long lines again.
Default.cfg is 1731 bytes leaner.
Thanks a lot.
