Now, here is the real reason. Had I correctly read your log, I could have told you earlier: the log says
CONNECT loginnet.passport.com:443 HTTP/1.0

The CONNECT method relates to SSL tunneling, in extenso https (port 443 is "https"). That method is not supported until https developments. Only GET and POST at the moment.

So I confirm that the temporary solution is to set your browser to use no proxy (or another proxy) for https.
