Setting up Tor with Freecap and Proxomitron
Guide to Setting up Tor with Freecap and Proxomitron

This setup makes it so that Freecap will automatically load on startup and will also automatically load up Proxomitron socksified.

You'll need Tor, Freecap, and Proxomitron.

Freecap is basically a free version of Sockscap (It's legal). How this setup works is that Freecap starts Proxomitron but routes all its connections through a defined SOCKS 4/5 or HTTP proxy.

1) Setting up Proxomitron

Ensure the 'Use a Remote Proxy' box is unticked. (Yes, this is all for Proxomitron Eyes Closed Smile)

2) Setting up Freecap

I have created a graphical walkthrough. Download the "freecap_setup_eng.exe" file from this link and install it.

Open Freecap and click on "File", then "New application".

Type in anything under "Profile Name", click on "Browse" and select "Proxomitron.exe". Tick "Run program at Freecap startup". Then click on "OK" to add it.

You will see Proxomitron has been added! Now, click on "File", then "Settings".

**Use exact settings in image, then click on "Apply"**

**Not important**

If you have a router that has a web interface for you to configure it, add the IP of your router here to prevent it from being loaded through Tor.

**Use exact settings in image**

**Not important**, click on "OK"

Right-click on your Proxomitron entry, and select "Run" to start Proxomitron!

3) Using the three altogether

For the browser of your choice, set the HTTP (or HTTPS as well) Proxy Server as:

Server: 127.0.0.1
Port: 8080

As you noticed, this is the default setting for Proxomitron. (If you have set Proxomitron to use a different port, then change as needed).

Start up Tor, and Freecap, and go to a webpage, Torified Eyes Closed Smile

Making Tor a Hidden Service [For Windows 2000/XP]

I have written a small tool in NSIS in order to make Tor a hidden service.

Download this file.

Note, you'll have to restart your computer after to have it working, and you MUST have installed Tor in its default location, C:\Program Files\Tor

Post-Installation Note

While having your connections routed through the Tor network, you WILL notice some decrease in your download speeds of pages, files, etc.
