Well, as things stand, a dial-up connection will usually benefit even more than a broadband connection, vis-a-vis a speed increase. Consider: You wish to eliminate all images, no matter what they are used for, and use a filter to do this. At this point, the preprocessor (Proxo) will allow the command to fetch the image to get through to the browser - after all, it's only text. But when that fetch command comes back out from the browser as a request for the image, the preprocessor finds a match, and kills the connection. Hence, the only time used was for the d/l'ing of the text itself, and no time was spent on the image.

That's a small improvement for small images (low byte count). A lot of them will add up, but so will the time spent in the preproccessor stage, per every match found. However, if you kill one or more large images, then you'll definitely notice that your page loads faster. Some background images are quite large - a filter like the one just described will dramatically reduce the page loading time.
