RE: youtube html5 video tag
(Nov. 26, 2010 09:08 PM)JJoe Wrote: I believe enrollment is controlled by a cookie. You could have lost it. I had 5 youtube cookies and I never allow youtube/Google cookies except the ones connected to the HTML5 experiment. I checked each cookie carefully and what I saw made me decide to boycott HTML5 at youtube just as I boycott Flash there. I deleted all of the youtube cookies. I closed Opera and restarted it. I then went to the youtube HTML5 experiment page again and it said I was not enrolled (I had enrolled again earlier when I was checking the youtube cookies and I did NOT get another cookie when enrolling). Now, all the youtube cookies are deleted. I reenrolled in the HTML5 experiment and I tried playing one of the webM videos. It knew that I had played that video several days ago. It must be keeping cookies elsewhere besides my browser. This is the kind of crap I can't stand with Flash Player and the reason I don't have Flash Player except on IE6 and IE6 can't play youtube videos as Google won't let it. I use Flash Player only for speed tests (and a rare video such as "Don't Touch My Junk" that I can play away from youtube) because I hate having to constantly monitor Flash player for how sneaky it is about cookies and settings, etc. I though HTML5 would be different. Naive of me I suppose. I later temporarily allowed youtube to add the cookies back (the ones I can see and control in the browser) and I see that one of them is a list of all HTML5 videos I have played at youtube. So, there are two sets of cookies and both of them retain lists of everything you play. I don't know where to find the second set of cookies so I can get rid of them. I suppose they are in some Flash Player like settings? UGH. Not worth it. I had expected better things of HTML5. ![]() Anyhow, none of the cookies have anything to do with being logged into the HTML5 experiment. That appears to log you out when you close the tab or the browser. I did get full screen working and now I remember as you said higher than 360p should show as a choice if it is available and I didn't see anything available on the ones I played. What makes HTML5 better than Flash is the sound. It is far superior to what you get with Flash at least on this computer. |
