Filter to stop browser hijacking (DNS redirection) by my ISP
My ISP, Time Warner Road Runner is hijacking my browser if I type an invalid domain in the url bar or if I make a typo in a valid url. As of yesterday, I get redirected to http://ww23.rr.com where there is a crappy Yahoo search that RR makes money off of if I were to click on any of the crap there.
Road Runner claims that I can go to Preferences at that site and opt OUT of the redirection (hijacking) of my browser. But I cannot opt out. Why? Because I am behind a router. Opting out is only possible if I connect directly to the internet through the modem. I am furious about this. To claim that we can opt out when we cannot if we have a router (and who doesn't these days even if they only have one machine) is despicable. I tried entering the url into HostsMan but I can't. Why is that? I could switch to Open DNS but they redirect also plus being in Hawaii any DNS servers on the Mainland ping at about 180-200ms, whereas, Oceanic Time Warner's here in Hawaii ping at 15ms. So, I would lose speed if I switch to any other DNS servers even Level 3's on the West Coast. I want to see this message and NOT some crap search engine from my ISP: "Host Name Lookup Failed The Proxomitron couldn't find the site named... http://www.westhawaiitribune-herald.com Check that the name is correct. If so, the site may have changed or may no longer exist." I still get the above message, ironically, on Road Runner Dial Up that I just switched to. Can someone please, please write a filter to stop this redirection? I, and others, will be very grateful. Time Warner and the other greedy ISPs doing this have broken their sacred trust as ISPs and their role regarding the Internet by violating proper protocol in this manner. |

My ISP is doing DNS hijacking too.
You can write a header filter to watch the Location: string in reply headers and rewrite it to google search when you find http://ww23.rr.com. |

RE: Filter to stop browser hijacking (DNS redirection) by my ISP
I finally got this fixed so no need for a Proxo filter. I finally was able to opt out.
