- mozerd - May. 18, 2004 01:26 PM Yesterday I made a post in the Programming section that appears to be deleted today. [unsure] Can anyone tell Why that post was deleted? The post that was deleted provide a comment about removing some code [solving the endless loop issue] and another comment that a particular semicolon was not needed in a HTML element as suggested by a poster. - Oddysey - May. 21, 2004 03:51 PM And back to you too, stormy!Oddysey - ProxRocks - May. 21, 2004 08:04 PM I've had TWO posts deleted... Whatever "backup scheme" has been employed, it's NOT working... - Oddysey - May. 21, 2004 09:12 PM ProxRocks; (You know, every time I type your name, or even think it in my brainstorming session, I wanna call you "PR". Do you think that means I'm getting lazy?) Well, the problem is most likely as Kye-U said, the host provider migrated the forum contents from one server/machine to another. In that operation, I'll lay odds that an image was taken of the files-to-be-transferred, and then you, mozerd and I all posted after the image was made. Sadly, the board itself was not locked, so posting was allowed. Only, you guessed it, after the migration, the board was summarily taken down without looking to see if there had been any updates since the initial image was taken. Poor planning, I know, but look on the bright side; we only 'lost' two or maybe three days at the most. Compare that to the 3 week loss back in late April/early May. I *think* you can re-post the HOSTS file stuff, right? And mozerd and I were able to complete our conversation, so no harm done there. Unfortunately, I didn't see anybody else post to the board, so no other losses occurred, AFAIK. (I say unfortunately because that means that there's very little traffic right now. Bad juju for Kye-U's dreams of a Proxo Empire! :o [lol] )Oh, I almost forgot, one more 'bright side' comparison. Cheer up, it could be worse. Kye-U could have gone back to the Lycos free site, over in France. Then you'd really be up schiesse crick with a yardstick for a paddle, wouldn't you? [unsure] As James Hetfield would say "Migration baaaad, backups gooooood!" (Think Camp Chaos' Napster Bad cartoons for the cartoonish actions behind this one! (Actually, that link is a direct shortcut to the cartoons, not to the Camp Chaos home page.)) Oddysey [edit] Upon re-reading this two days later, it does look like I'm slamming KmrDrow pretty hard. That's not true. In my usual overly-fatuous style, I failed to consider how other people might see my comments. Let me assure you, one and all, that as I wrote the above post, I was thinking more in terms of automated software being given a command, like "Go migrate from here to there", and no further human intervention was possible. Sorta like a macro or a script. In truth, I don't know just how much KmrDrow had to do with the whole enchilada, but his name is on the dotted line, so it looks like I smacked him around, undeservingly so. My apologies to all, and most certainly to KmrDrow. After all, anyone who picks a kitten for an avatar can't be all bad, right? [/edit] - Kye-U - May. 22, 2004 02:55 AM I'll backup at least once per week from now on. Yes, I want this forum to be more and more active. The Security Code Confirmation wasn't working, and was locking registrees out, but a smart user e-mailed me about the problem ![]() Hope to see more members. (Tell your FRIENDS!) - storm119 - May. 22, 2004 02:57 PM Oddysey Wrote:And Thanks. (lol) Kye-u, Good idea for doing backup once/week....if something goes wrong.
