Forum Software Discussion - Kye-U - Nov. 19, 2014 08:08 PM

Hi everyone,

As you know, we run on MyBB, and there has been a new milestone release that may drastically change functionality and the theme: http://blog.mybb.com/2014/09/01/mybb-1-8-released/

Over the years, I've had to modify MyBB in order to not mangle posted Proxomitron filters (particularly the ampersand), and also customize the RSS/ATOM feeds to be more accurate. I've been keeping our forum software up-to-date behind the scenes as well to prevent any security incidents from occurring, and safeguarding all of our data as well.

With this new milestone version, it may take a couple of days or weeks to figure out the implications and impact of the new or changes features.

I am a firm believer in the saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", but the allure of shiny and new things is also very enticing Smile!

I wanted to ask for the community's thoughts on this. They say that version 1.8 is the "bridge" to version 2.0, so we do have the option of staying with our current forum version and upgrading when version 2.0 is released.

A forum may impress a potential employer or customer. A forum using current software may impress them more. Smile!

Eventually everybody upgrades but that the link to the general updating guide at http://blog.mybb.com/2014/09/01/mybb-1-8-released/ is a 404. Back up if yes Wink

Do you have enough space to trial the new software at another address?
