So in an effort to opt out of some of Google's tracking, I've started using - a replacement for scroogle. I also occasionally use , their sister search engine for non-google results.

Does anyone have a filter to remove the ads from these pages?

I don't see any ads. I do see headers for the ads but the ads are filtered out.

What should I search for? Are you filtering https or using the http version of the sites?

I forgot about the HTTPS issue... That's my problem, I don't filter HTTPS :P ... And the site seems to default to https, even when I try http...

Go to preferences or , disable "Secure socket layer", and click "Generate URL" (to use as bookmark for http access) or "Save Setting" (to create a cookie that will allow http use).

Of course, after you have the cookie or the URL, you can set the Proxomitron to handle things.

I use a GET searchplugin for startpage. Though the 2nd page reverts to POST type url.
I noticed that startpage put the search phrase into the page title, so you can bookmark the phrase. also, startpage/ixquick uses old style verbose boolean (this OR that), so all characters are windows "legal", no | or " characters.

btw, I wondered, how does SSL/https increase privacy whether GET or POST?
SSL encrypts contents. The submitted data (search phrase) is encrypted.
Non-SLL the contents of page (search results plus text) gives away the search phrase.

If GET, the url doesn't give away the search phrase.
But if POST, the url includes the search phrase.

So, privacy needs SSL and POST.
