- Oddysey - Mar. 05, 2005 05:19 AM Boys and Girls; Just went searching on something else, like always, and unexpectedly came up with this little gem (also usual (to find a completely unrelated gem like this <_<)). This is a support forum for something called No-Trax, and it seems to be up-to-date. Anyone else here tried it yet? No-Trax, a surfing anonymizer This is actually a sub-forum. If you go up one level from here, you'll find yourself at a support forum for something called 'Eraser'. Jak, you might wanna check out this one. :o [lol] Oddysey - JakBeNymble - Mar. 05, 2005 05:16 PM Hey Thankx "Oddysey", . .there's a ton of information over there. I've been reading some of the posts. Somewhere here on the forum I had mentioned the No-Trakx browser, but it does take a huge chunk of resoures to run it. Good proggie, but it did cut down surfin' speed for Me. But then again that was when I was on dial-up, it might do alittle better now that I'm on broadband. I've got to re-install it on this machine. Here is another little something that I've been thinking about adding to my arsenal of Web-ammo proggies for clearing "surfin' nasties picked-up while traveling down the information-highway. It's a flashdrive that has compression, encryption, and "Browsing Software", . .Plug it in to any machine, surf, download, . . .when You are finished , unplug the thing, no trace on the machine what so ever. And everything compressed & encrypted on the flashdrive hanging on Your keychain. And here's the kicker, . .the price $9.99 after rebate! Here's the link: "Click Here" And they have a "Bill Me Later" plan that actually works! LOL! Take Care "Guyz" , Have a Good Week-end, and thankx for thinkin' of Me "Oddysey" ![]() Safe-surfin', "JaK" [smoke] - Kye-U - Mar. 05, 2005 06:59 PM Jak, do you know of anything free that's almost like CryptoStick? ![]() I have two 256mb USB Keychains, and you know how paranoid I am about security
- Oddysey - Mar. 05, 2005 08:40 PM Jak; Quote:...... Have a Good Week-end, and thankx for thinkin' of Me "Oddysey" Hah! No problem, Jak, anything for me mate, eh? [lol] [offtopic] Quote:It's a flashdrive (USB key)......I didn't go you one better, but I did go you one "sideways". [wacko] Some time ago I stopped using ZIP disks to transfer large files to my client(s). I replaced all that with my USB-connected digital camera, with its 1-gig SD card. :o [lol] That got me to thinking...... if I can transfer files between computers with this thing, why not just use it as a normal storage device, and see what happens? Sure enough, I snagged an extra SD card (and it's fast, fast, <span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>fast</span>, let me tell you!), and plugged 'er in. Copied knoppix (with its own version of Lynx) over to it, set the machine to boot on "Other device", and voila! No hard drives can be seen (I set it that way, but I could change it to see them, if I were less paranoid [wha]), so I'm surfing with a camera. Works on my wireless laptop, too!! Whatcha think o' them beans, eh captain? [smoke] Oddysey - Kye-U - Mar. 05, 2005 10:46 PM I think those beans are sexy ![]() That's awesome! An operating system on a camera ![]() Goes to show how technology applies to almost everything
- JakBeNymble - Mar. 06, 2005 01:54 PM Hi "Guyz", Good thinking "Oddysey"! I'll have to set this box up and see how it goes here. "Kye-U", . .haven't run into anything free but I'll be looking, . .there's got to be something out there like this. ![]() Later Guyz" "JaK" [smoke] - hpguru - Mar. 06, 2005 04:22 PM No offence but I think you guys have gone a little overboard. When you go to such extremes (e.g. OS on a Cam), it leads one to believe either... 1) Your *extreme* paranoia isn't rooted in reality OR 2) Your *extreme* paranoia is rooted in a deep dark secret you are trying in vain to protect. Btw I know a couple guys who can make void your best efforts at anonymity within 48 hours, and that's on an off day. Best thing is to just get lost in the crowd.

When you go to such extremes (e.g. OS on a Cam), it leads one to believe either...I could not agree more... I mean, I'm all for my Proxo config increasing the level of my anonymity, for example... But that does NOT mean that I want 300 filters dedicated to "security", especially if they "block" THEORETICAL insecurities that have NOT been documented 'in the wild'... It seems to me that those with 300 filters dedicated to anonymity and security are doing so out of undue paranoia - perhaps they are doing something that they don't want "the establishment" to know about... or perhaps just something that they don't want 'yo mama' to know about... - hpguru - Mar. 06, 2005 09:01 PM IMHO knowledge serves us better than paranoia any day. Regarding the filtering of exploit code, I have no such filters either. I have designed my Proxo config entirely around the Principal of Least Privilege - a tried and true security maxim - and it works so well that in the last year I have seen little reason to modify my config. - besafe - Mar. 06, 2005 09:20 PM Could this be an end to all the anonymity. http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/security/0,20...39183346,00.htm - Ralph - Mar. 07, 2005 12:14 AM Ok guys , I know you've been waiting to hear from the laity so here is my not so knowledgeable opinion . I do believe that most people who surf the net don't give a hoot about security . My friends pc took overnight to get through an Ad-Aware scan and came up with 172 critical items on his 14 gig hd ! I have no idea what the norm is but that seems like a lot of stuff and a long time . There is a very definite place for easy solutions like a Zip drive , camera drive or programs like NoTrax to protect security ; however , ProxRocks and Hp's points are very valid . There is no joy in paranoia . Knowledge is power , man ! I 'm using Sidke's latest config and it is absolutely remarkable . He deserves a medal for all his efforts . BTW , HP , it's great to have you back in the forum .
- besafe - Mar. 07, 2005 03:13 AM Knowledge is power but knowledge takes time. Until you have the knowledge it is good to be paranoid on the net. IMHO - JakBeNymble - Mar. 07, 2005 08:39 AM Hi "Guyz", "HpGuru" I have always trusted Your judgement in interNet security and privacy issues, . . .do You think that the next version of JakPack should go back to rotating strings on every connection or should I keep them "site specific"? My thinking was that if I made them site specific that it would look more like normal web traffic. But I could set the header filters to rotate with every connection and that would creat a "psuedo-crowd" to get lost in, . .I truely value Your opinion on this. "BeSafe" , . .did You read this reply to that article, . ."click here" According to the article, , ,by denying icmp from any to any out icmptypes 13, 14, . . invalidates the whole concept. But I think the author meant "Firewall" instead of "Firewire", . .lol ![]() Best Wishes, ~"JaK"~ [smoke] - Oddysey - Mar. 07, 2005 09:18 AM hpguru; Quote:No offence but I think you guys have gone a little overboard.None taken. ![]() Quote:When you go to such extremes (e.g. OS on a Cam), it leads one to believe either... Nope, it was just a project to see if it could be done - sorta like climbing Mt. Everest, that's all. :P I had been porting multi-megabyte files for over a year with this thing, so when Jak laid the challenge at my doorstep, I couldn't resist. [rolleyes] [lol] Might take it the next linux club meeting though, just for the geek points! After that, I think the other half is gonna put the arm on the SD card for her PDA. Oddysey - Oddysey - Mar. 07, 2005 09:36 AM Ralph; Quote:I do believe that most people who surf the net don't give a hoot about security.I disagree with that, my man. I think they do want to achieve at least a moderate level of security, and I'm sure the majority of them at least make an attempt at it, but in today's society, it just isn't possible to keep up at the killer pace set by the bad guys. I think it's easy to see why most folks throw their hands up in the air and give up after just one or two rounds of updating, scanning, being scared out of their wits, etc. But no, they would like to be able to practice safe hex, but it's not the thing that puts food on their table, so it gets relegated to the back burner, then falls to the floor, and hence through the proverbial crack. For most folks. Quote:There is a very definite place for easy solutions like a Zip drive , camera drive or programs like NoTrax to protect security.I daresay that the average person on the street will give you very blank stare if you ask them to setup and operate a thumbdrive or other USB boot device. Not what most non-geeks would call an 'easy' solution, I hope you'll agree. I'd sooner see them become more comfortable with the available software based solutions on their standard machines.
